Periodontology is responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases that affect the periodontium, that is, the supporting structures of the tooth, namely gingiva and alveolar bone.

If your gums (soft tissue around your teeth) turn red or bleed during brushing and flossing, you may be in the first stage of periodontal disease: so-called gingivitis. This is characterized by an inflammation of the most superficial tissues and can appear in both children and adults.

In both cases, the presence of pain is not common.
